The weather on Bonaire

Swap the rainy and cold days for a sun-filled holiday in a tropical paradise!

The weather is almost always nice on Bonaire and that is an important reason for many people to go on holiday to this beautiful island ! In many countries it rains 9 out of 10 times, so during our holiday we prefer a nice sun. In that case you are in the right place in the Caribbean!

Steppe climate

A steppe climate prevails in the Caribbean. This means that the temperature differences are low on an annual basis, there is little rainfall and a lot of sun. The humidity is very high at 76%, but the trade winds ensure that it is still a good place on the island. On the other hand, there is sometimes no wind on the island and it is very hot. You’d better stay in the shade.

February, March and August are the “windiest” months on the Dutch diving island. Fortunately, Bonaire is outside the hurricane zone, so you don’t have to worry about tropical storms, hurricanes and tornadoes. Because Bonaire is outside the hurricane zone, the island has almost nothing to do with the negative consequences of natural violence on the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. On the other hand, hurricane season does influence the weather on Bonaire. It can happen that it is very dry and windless for a few days, which alternates with strong wind or rain showers.

The rainy season on Bonaire runs from October to December. Fortunately, the rainy season on Bonaire cannot be compared to that of Southeast Asia. The trade winds often blow over quickly and fortunately most of the rain falls at night and early in the morning. During the morning it clears up and the sun comes out.

Temperature in the Caribbean islands

The average daytime temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius, so quite warm! Make sure you drink enough water and apply yourself well with suntan lotion during the day. The temperature of the sea averages 29 degrees Celsius and, together with the little rainfall per month, is the perfect recipe for a wonderful summer climate.

The fact that the sun almost always shines on Bonaire is of course very nice. However, you should pay close attention and protect yourself from the bright sun. For example, at the hottest time of the day (between noon and 2 p.m.) you will find the locals in the shade instead of the sun. To ensure that you do not suffer from the sun, you should drink enough water throughout the day. You can also wear a hat or cap to protect yourself. It would be annoying if you take heatstroke during your vacation. However, the most important thing is of course applying yourself well with a sunscreen with a high protection factor (minimum factor 30).
